Depression is one of the most common mental health conditions, affecting millions of people each year. While many individuals find relief with therapy, medication, or a combination of both, some continue to struggle with symptoms despite trying multiple treatments.
This condition is known as Treatment-Resistant Depression (TRD), and it’s more common than you might think.
Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) can impact every aspect of a person’s life, from their relationships and career to their ability to complete everyday tasks. When traditional antidepressants don’t bring adequate relief, it can leave patients feeling hopeless and frustrated. However, there is hope, especially now, with new treatment options emerging.
One of the most promising new therapies for TRD is Spravato® (esketamine). Approved by the FDA, Spravato is a nasal spray used in combination with an oral antidepressant. It works differently than traditional SSRIs or SNRIs by targeting the glutamate system in the brain, which may play a key role in mood regulation.
Unlike daily medications, Spravato is administered under medical supervision in a certified healthcare setting, typically twice a week for the first few weeks. Many patients begin to notice improvements in their symptoms within the first month of treatment.
It’s important to note that Spravato isn’t for everyone. It’s specifically intended for adults who have not responded well to at least two other antidepressants. If you’ve been living with persistent symptoms despite previous efforts, this treatment may be worth exploring.
At our practice, we’re proud to begin offering Spravato as part of our comprehensive approach to depression care starting this June. We understand that every person’s experience with depression is unique, and we’re committed to helping you find the relief you deserve.
If you or someone you love has been struggling with depression that hasn’t improved with other treatments, we invite you to contact us to learn more about Spravato and whether it might be a fit for you.
You are not alone. You do have options.
